Real Life Story

Kristy McPherson:
LPGA Professional, Board Member and Juvenile Arthritis survivor

She is an Arthritis National Research Foundation board member and LPGA Tour Professional. But, Kristy McPherson's most important role is to inspire the 300,000 kids in America with juvenile arthritis. At 11, she was diagnosed with juvenile arthritis and told she would never play competitive sports again, much less be a champion. She beat the odds to compete at the highest level in pro golf.

"When I was 11, I was diagnosed with Still's Disease, a rare form of Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis. For a year, I spent my time in bed, unable to walk. My doctors said I would not be able to compete in sports that required running or jumping and possibly not compete in any sport again.

Being unable to walk seemed like the end of the world. Turned out that getting sick was the best thing that ever happened to me. Juvenile Arthritis led me to golf and my love affair with this game. Determination and the support of my family enabled me to compete at the highest level on the LPGA.

Now is my opportunity to give back by joining the search for a cure and serving as a role model for children and adults with arthritis. Research is the key to finding new treatments and cures. I am excited because the Arthritis National Research Foundation focuses only on research. Join our team in this fight against arthritis; we need your support for this critical research."
