Real Life Story

Since 2007, when autism was designated a national public health crisis by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of children diagnosed with autism has continued to increase at a staggering rate. Today, one in every 110 children in the U.S. has an autism diagnosis.

While there is still no known cause or cure, scientists are learning more about autism every day. Unfortunately, there is a tremendous amount of confusing, and often conflicting, information coming from the media and the Internet.

Families trying to identify the best treatments for loved ones with autism need facts, not fiction.

At the National Autism Center, we are dedicated to improving the lives of children and adolescents with autism by providing reliable information, promoting best practices, and offering comprehensive resources for families, educators, and practitioners.

Two years ago, we released our National Standards Report, the most comprehensive research analysis of treatments for children and adolescents with autism ever published. This groundbreaking report identifies effective autism treatments and provides guidelines for making treatment choices. Last year, we published a manual for educators; this fall, we begin national distribution of a free 200-page autism guide for parents.
